Halo Infinite is set to receive a new competitive mode later this year, called S&D Extraction, which promises to bring a fresh and exciting experience to the game. This new mode is inspired by one-life FPS games like Valorant, Counter-Strike 2, and Rainbow Six Siege, and is designed to provide a more planned-out approach to gameplay. In S&D Extraction, players will be divided into attacking and defending teams, with the attackers needing to plant an extraction device on one of two objectives, while the defenders must stop them or defuse it before the timer runs down to zero.
The mode features a unique economy system, where players can earn credits by initiating extractions, converting extractions, and getting kills. These credits can be used to purchase weapons, equipment, and power-ups between rounds, with the cost of items based on their overall effectiveness and power potential in the round. The mode also introduces a Buy Back mechanic, which allows players to buy back into a round after death, but at a significant cost. This mechanic is designed to balance out matches and introduce another layer of depth to the game, as players will need to decide whether to save for Buy Back or use their credits to purchase more gear in later rounds.
The S&D Extraction mode is built on the Extraction mode, which is different from other games where the time-to-kill is faster and a single headshot from a rifle could take out a player. In S&D Extraction, the same base gameplay that Halo Infinite fans know and love is maintained, with the same Spartan movement abilities, weapon lethality, and shields. The mode is designed to be more tactical and strategic, with players needing to work together as a team to succeed. The introduction of the Buy Back mechanic adds another layer of complexity to the game, as players will need to weigh the risks and rewards of buying back into a round, and decide whether it is worth the cost.
Halo Studios has partnered with ForgeHub to launch the S&D Extraction Forgehub Map Contest, with a total prize pool of $20,000. The contest is open to all Forgers, and the rules, guidelines, and judging criteria can be found on ForgeHub.com/Events. The contest is a great opportunity for players to showcase their creative skills and build the best maps for the new mode. Additionally, Halo Studios has hired Artifice and Mikripto to build the mode and map respectively, and has been working with members of the Forge community to develop the mode.
The S&D Extraction mode will be coming to Halo Infinite and HCS later this year, and players can get a first look at the mode at the FaZe Kaysan Invitational on March 29. The mode is expected to bring a new level of excitement and competition to the game, and Halo Studios is committed to continuing to support and update the game with new content and features. With its unique economy system, Buy Back mechanic, and tactical gameplay, S&D Extraction is set to be a game-changer for Halo Infinite, and players can expect a thrilling and challenging experience when the mode is released.
