The Road to the Final
The stage is set for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, with India taking on New Zealand in Dubai. Amidst the excitement, speculation about Rohit Sharma's retirement has been making headlines. However, Shubman Gill, India's vice-captain, has put an end to such rumors, confirming that Rohit has no immediate plans to retire. "Till now we have only been discussing winning the match, winning the Champions Trophy. He has not spoken to me or to the team about this. I don't think Rohit is thinking about it," Gill said.
Preparing for the Big Match
Gill also spoke about the team's preparation for the final, stating that they have a good idea of the conditions at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. "I don't think the wicket is going to behave any differently. We haven't really seen a 300 score here as yet and I think irrespective of the weather, the wicket is going to be similar to what we've been playing on." The young opener expressed his excitement about playing in his second ICC event final, after the 2023 World Cup. "I am very excited. This is my second ICC event for Team India and second final. So definitely I am very excited."
Handling Pressure and Experience
Gill conceded that there will be pressure in the final, but believes that experienced players like Virat Kohli can make a significant difference. "We saw Virat in the last match. Because he has played so many important matches for India, played so many finals, so many semi-finals. The more you are in that situation and the more you have handled the pressure; you know that you have already done this." With the team's experience and preparation, India is ready to take on New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, and Gill is confident that they can handle the pressure and come out on top.
