New Zealand's Record-Breaking Innings

Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson's centuries led New Zealand to a record-breaking total of 362 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa. The dynamic duo's partnership of 164 runs laid the foundation for the Black Caps' emphatic victory. Ravindra, who scored his fifth ODI ton, all in ICC tournaments, revealed that the team hadn't thought of such a big score initially. "We were thinking around the 300-run mark," he said, "but then Kane started to accelerate, and we thought there was more on."

South Africa's Challenging Chase

South Africa's captain, Temba Bavuma, conceded that 362 was probably more than his team could realistically chase. Despite a solid start, with Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen adding 105 runs for the second wicket, the Proteas lost their way in the middle overs. Bavuma acknowledged that his side needed to be more decisive and ruthless in key moments of the game. The South African bowlers struggled to contain New Zealand's batters, with none of them having respectable figures except for the part-time spin of Aiden Markram.

New Zealand's Clinical Bowling Performance

Mitchell Santner led the charge for New Zealand's bowlers, taking 3-43, including the scalps of Bavuma, van der Dussen, and Heinrich Klaasen. The left-arm spinner used his variations to good effect, denying the batters any room to score freely. Santner's spin twin, Michael Bracewell, also had an impressive day out, as the Black Caps' bowlers choked the life out of South Africa's innings. The New Zealand captain praised his team's performance, saying, "We took wickets in the middle overs and made it tough for the opposition."
