The Premier League title race is becoming increasingly one-sided, with Liverpool extending their lead to 13 points after a 2-0 win over Newcastle United. The Reds' victory, courtesy of goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, has left them firmly in control at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Arsenal's title hopes are all but over after they failed to score against a vibrant Nottingham Forest, playing out a 0-0 draw at the City Ground.

Liverpool's win was a dominant performance, with the hosts taking the lead inside 11 minutes when Szoboszlai's tame finish wriggled under Nick Pope. The Reds' opponent, Newcastle, was blunted by the absence of in-form striker Alexander Isak, and they struggled to create clear-cut chances. Callum Wilson, making his first Premier League start of the season for Newcastle, spurned a glorious chance to restore parity after being played through on goal later in the first half, but his effort curled agonisingly wide of the post. Liverpool's victory was sealed when Mac Allister made sure of the win after the break, curling brilliantly past Pope after some nifty footwork from Mohamed Salah.

Arsenal's draw with Nottingham Forest was a lackluster performance, with the Gunners managing only one effort on target despite enjoying 65% possession. Mikel Arteta's side has been hit hard by injuries, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz out until next season and Bukayo Saka unlikely to return from his three-month layoff until after the March international break. The Spaniard has done an incredible job reviving Arsenal during his five years in charge, but they seem to have hit an impasse, and Arteta needs to find a way to make things happen as the top coaches do. The premier league title is now a distant dream for Arsenal, and they are in danger of being dragged into a fight for a UEFA Champions League spot if they are unable to escape their malaise.

Elsewhere, Manchester City edged past Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Erling Haaland scoring the only goal of the game after just 12 minutes. The Norway international's 28th goal of the season in all competitions was a typically clinical finish, dispatching Jérémy Doku's cross inside Guglielmo Vicario's near post. Haaland's contribution was still not enough to mask the fragility that has become a feature of City's football in recent months, but the win solidified their position in the Champions League spots ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round game against Plymouth Argyle. The champions league spot is now within City's grasp, and they will be looking to build on this win to secure their place in the top four. Manchester United also secured a big win, coming from behind to beat Ipswich Town 3-2, with all three United goals coming from Bruno Fernandes' set pieces.

The results have significant implications for the title race, with Liverpool now firmly in control. The Reds' 13-point lead is a significant advantage, and it will be difficult for any of the chasing teams to catch them. Arsenal's draw with Nottingham Forest has all but ended their title hopes, and they will now be focusing on securing a top-four spot. Manchester City's win over Tottenham has solidified their position in the top four, and they will be looking to build on this win to secure their place in the Champions League. The Premier League table is as follows:

  • Liverpool: 73 points
  • Arsenal: 60 points
  • Manchester City: 59 points
  • Tottenham Hotspur: 55 points
  • Newcastle United: 54 points
The upcoming fixtures will be crucial in determining the final standings, and teams will be looking to build on their recent performances to secure their goals.
