Rangers have parted ways with manager Philippe Clement after a disappointing run of results, including a home defeat to St Mirren, which marked their first loss to the team at Ibrox since 1991. The Belgian manager had been under pressure this season, with the team struggling to match Celtic's consistency, and this month's Scottish Cup loss at home to Queen's Park increased supporter unrest. Clement's exit comes as the club is in talks about a potential takeover by 49ers Enterprises, which could be completed between April and June.

The club has announced that they would like to put on record their sincere thanks to Clement for his hard work and dedication during his spell in charge, and a further update from the club will follow in due course. Clement joined Rangers in October 2023, following Michael Beale's 10-month reign, and soon won the League Cup, leading the team to the top of the Premiership. However, a poor record against Celtic contributed to missing out on last season's league title and Scottish Cup. This term, league defeats by Celtic, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, and St Mirren put Clement under scrutiny, and Rangers missed out on another League Cup triumph by losing the final to Celtic on penalties.

Clement's record in Europe was competent, emulating last season's achievement of reaching the last 16 of the Europa League, and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce will meet Rangers over two legs in March for a place in the quarter-finals. The team's league victory over Celtic at Ibrox in January temporarily eased the pressure, but further dropped points at Hibernian and Dundee, as well as this month's home losses, ultimately sealed Clement's fate. After Hibs had beaten Celtic earlier on Saturday, St Mirren's win was their first at Ibrox since 1991, and came less than two weeks after Championship side Queen's Park knocked Rangers out of the Scottish Cup.

Upcoming matches for Rangers include a trip to Kilmarnock in the Premiership on Wednesday, and a home match against Motherwell on Saturday. The team's recent performances have been disappointing, with a lack of consistency and poor results against top teams. The premiership table currently shows Rangers in second place, but 13 points behind leaders Celtic. The club's fans will be hoping for a turnaround in fortunes, but it remains to be seen who will take over as manager and what changes will be made to the team. Some of the key statistics for Rangers this season include:

  • League position: 2nd
  • Points: 45
  • Goals scored: 50
  • Goals conceded: 35
The team's performance in the Europa League has been a highlight of the season, with Rangers reaching the last 16 of the competition.

The search for a new manager is now underway, with the club looking for someone to turn around their fortunes and challenge Celtic for the league title. The potential takeover by 49ers Enterprises could bring significant investment to the club, but it remains to be seen how this will affect the team's performance on the pitch. One thing is certain, however, and that is that the club needs to make some significant changes if they are to challenge for major honors in the future.
