The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline is rapidly approaching, with the cutoff set for 3 p.m. ET on Friday, March 7. As the deadline draws near, several top players from around the league could be on the move, including goalies, defensemen, and forwards. The Anaheim Ducks' John Gibson, a 31-year-old goalie with a lifetime goals-against average under 3.00 and save percentage above .910 in more than 500 games, is one of the top goalies who could be moved. Gibson is in the sixth year of an eight-year contract with a $6.4 million average annual value and has not played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since the 2017-18 season.
Other goalies who could be on the move include the Calgary Flames' Dan Vladar, who has taken a backseat to rookie Dustin Wolf, and the Ottawa Senators' Anton Forsberg, who is in the last year of his contract and likely won't be back with the team next season. The Los Angeles Kings' David Rittich and the Philadelphia Flyers' Ivan Fedotov are also possibilities. On the defensive side, the Columbus Blue Jackets' defenseman Ivan Provorov, who has had at least 25 points in each of his nine NHL seasons, could be a good option for a team looking to add offense on its back end. The Montreal Canadiens' David Savard, a right-shot defenseman with a lot of experience, and the Anaheim Ducks' defenseman Erik Gudas, who has one year remaining on his contract after this season, are also possibilities.
As for forwards, the New York Islanders' Brock Nelson, who has had at least 34 goals and 59 points in each of the past three seasons prior to this one, might be the most appealing forward on the trade market. The Pittsburgh Penguins' Rickard Rakell, who has three years at $5 million average annual value after this season, and the San Jose Sharks' Ryan Donato, who is in the last year of his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season, are also possibilities. Other forwards who could be on the move include the Buffalo Sabres' Dylan Cozens, the New York Islanders' Kyle Palmieri, and the Vancouver Canucks' Brock Boeser.
