Jake Knapp has etched his name into history with the 15th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history, carding a 12-under 59 at the Cognizant Classic at PGA National. Knapp's historic round was marked by 12 birdies, including a 60-foot putt at the par-4 second hole and a big breaking putt from 31 feet at the 15th hole. He started the day with a run of five straight birdies and never looked back, finishing with a two-putt birdie at the par-5 18th hole.
Knapp's achievement is all the more impressive given that he made two key gear changes this week, switching to a TaylorMade Qi35 driver and a Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.2 Circle T mallet putter. The changes clearly worked, as Knapp gained more than 2 shots both off the tee and putting in round 1. His 2.2 strokes gained: off-the-tee was tops in the field after the morning wave. Knapp's full bag includes a mix of PXG, TaylorMade, and Titleist gear, and he uses a Golf Pride grip.
Here are the specs of Knapp's full bag:
- Driver: TaylorMade Qi35 (9@8.25, 1 click lower, 15 g weight front, 5 g weight back, 7 g hotmelt neutral forward), Fujikura Ventus TR Black 7-X (45.375″ EOG, Tipped 1″) D6

Knapp's historic round has put him in pole position to add more hardware to his trophy case this weekend. He has one PGA Tour win, at last year's Mexico Open as a rookie, and has played the Cognizant once before, tying for fourth last year. With his smooth swing and strategic play, Knapp is definitely a player to watch in the world of golf.
The Cognizant Classic continues through the weekend, with the PGA Tour's best players competing for the top prize. Other notable players in the field include Daniel Berger, Russell Henley, and Sami Valimaki, who each shot 63 in the opening round. Rickie Fowler was among those with opening-round 64s, while Jordan Spieth shot 65. The tournament is being held at PGA National, a course that players have said has been less punitive in recent years.
