The Stage is Set
The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy reaches its climax as India takes on New Zealand in the final on Sunday, March 9, in Dubai. India, the only unbeaten side in the tournament, looks to continue their dominance, while New Zealand aims to upset the favorites and claim the title. The Black Caps have gained valuable experience playing across all four venues, including Dubai, where they will face India.
Spin Challenge
The Dubai wicket has been slow and sluggish, offering something for both spin and seam bowlers. India's spinners have excelled in these conditions, with 52.5% of their balls clocked above 90 kph, the highest among all teams. New Zealand's spin duo, Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell, will look to challenge India's middle-order, particularly Virat Kohli, who has struggled against left-arm spin. Santner has dismissed Kohli thrice in ODIs and has kept a lid on his scoring.
Sweep Shots and Fielding
India's batters, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, have been innovative in their approach, using sweeps to open up areas in the field. However, New Zealand's exceptional fielding, with a catching efficiency of 91.1%, could prove to be a game-changer. The Black Caps have been athletic in the field, and their ability to take half-chances and save runs could make a significant difference in the game. India, on the other hand, has been sloppy in the field, dropping seven catches and a stumping, which could cost them dearly.
