Preparation for Global Tournaments
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has made a significant decision to scrap ODIs from their upcoming tour of Pakistan, opting instead for a five-match T20I series. This move is part of their preparation strategy for the forthcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. With the Asia Cup scheduled for September in India and the next ICC T20 World Cup set to take place in India and Sri Lanka in 2026, both Bangladesh and Pakistan are focusing on the T20 format to gear up for these global tournaments.
Shift in Tour Schedule
Initially, Bangladesh was scheduled to tour Pakistan in May for three ODIs and as many T20Is under the FTP. However, both boards have mutually decided to play a five-match T20I series instead, as part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup. Additionally, Pakistan will play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in July, which was decided during the recently concluded Champions Trophy.
Future Matches and Schedules
The three T20Is between Pakistan and Bangladesh in July are scheduled to be played in Dhaka on July 20, 22, and 24, just before Pakistan's tour of the West Indies. A BCB official confirmed, "We have decided to play T20Is instead of ODIs in the upcoming tour of Pakistan as we are planning to start our preparation for the next T20 World Cup as well as Asia Cup through that series." This strategic decision underscores the importance of the T20 format in the teams' preparation for upcoming international competitions.
