The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine is just around the corner, and all eyes will be on the top prospects as they compete in various drills and events. One of the most highly anticipated events is the 40-yard dash, which can significantly impact a player's draft stock. Last year, Xavier Worthy set a record with a 4.21-second 40-yard dash, and this year's prospects will be looking to challenge that mark. Among the top contenders are wide receivers, defensive backs, and running backs, who are known for their speed and agility.
Some of the top prospects to watch in the 40-yard dash include wide receivers such as Smith, Bond, and Golden, who have all shown exceptional speed and acceleration on the field. Smith, in particular, has a strong track background, having won the Class 2A title in the 200-meter dash and earning first-team All-America honors in 2021. Bond, on the other hand, has been clocked at 4.20 seconds in the 40-yard dash and has a reputation for being one of the fastest players in the draft. Golden, a deep threat for the Longhorns, has a track background and possesses easy long speed, making him a contender for one of the top 40 times.
Defensive backs such as Hunter, Porter, and Riley will also be looking to make a statement in the 40-yard dash. Hunter, a Heisman Trophy winner, has incredible speed and acceleration, as seen in his touchdown-saving tackle against TCU in 2023. Porter, a rare physical specimen, has been clocked at 22.17 mph by Zebra Technologies and has a chance to break the 4.3 mark. Riley, a Senior Bowl standout, has game-changing speed and has been named the 2019 State Boys 4A Track Player of the Year in South Carolina.
In addition to these top prospects, other players to watch in the 40-yard dash include running backs such as Tuten and Horn, who have both shown exceptional speed and agility on the field. Tuten, an explosive back, has previously run a 4.32-second 40 and registered a 60-meter dash time of 7.03 seconds in high school. Horn, a high school track star, won the 4x100 relay and stood out in the 100, triple jump, and long jump. The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine will take place from February 27 to March 2, and fans can catch live coverage of the event on the NFL Network and stream it on NFL+.
The combine will feature daily workouts, evaluations, and press conferences, and live results will be provided in real-time on the NFL's website. The daily schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, February 27: Defensive backs and linebackers
- Friday, February 28: Defensive linemen and edge rushers
- Saturday, February 29: Quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends
- Sunday, March 2: Running backs and offensive linemen
