The 2025 NFL Combine has come to a close, with the defensive backs and tight ends taking center stage on the second day of workouts. Many of these players wowed scouts with their speed in the 40-yard dash, their agility in drills, and their explosiveness in the broad and vertical jumps. Some exceeded expectations, causing their draft stock to rise, while others displayed flaws in their speed and/or athleticism, hurting their chances of being selected on Day 1 or Day 2 of the draft.
One of the top performers was Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback from Kentucky, who ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash, the best time of the combine so far. His 39 1/2-inch vertical, 10-foot-9 broad jump, and fluid hips in position drills also stood out. Hairston smoothly caught passes in position drills, backing up his five-interception effort from 2023. Other notable performers included Darien Porter, a cornerback from Iowa State, who ran a 4.30 40 with a 1.49-second 10-yard split and a 10-foot-11 broad jump, and Nick Emmanwori, a safety from South Carolina, who posted a time of 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had the best vertical and broad jump of any safety at the combine.
Some players who could use a strong effort at their school's pro day to leave a favorable impression before the draft include Bryant, who did not impress with his 4.53 40 at 180 pounds, and Castro, who had a pedestrian 1.59 10-yard split in his 4.59-second 40-yard dash. Helm, a tight end from Texas, also didn't help himself with a 4.84-second 40 and 30-inch vertical at just 241 pounds. The athleticism and speed displayed by these players will be crucial in determining their draft stock, and a strong pro day performance could make all the difference.
The following players were among the top performers at the combine:
- Darien Porter, Iowa State: 4.30 40, 1.49 10-yard split, 10-foot-11 broad jump
- Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky: 4.28 40, 39 1/2-inch vertical, 10-foot-9 broad jump
- Nick Emmanwori, South Carolina: 4.38 40, 43-inch vertical, 11-6 broad jump
- Caleb Ransaw, Tulane: 9.96 RAS out of a possible 10.00
- Kitan Crawford, Nevada: 9.90 RAS out of a possible 10.00
