The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast isolated to widespread light to moderate rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir for March 3, with a possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at most places, while a few higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy snowfall. The weather conditions are expected to remain dry from March 4 to March 9, with another spell of rain and snow possible from March 10 to 12. The MeT office has also issued an advisory urging tourists/travellers/transporters to follow administration/traffic advisories during the period and avoid slopy and avalanche prone areas.
The day temperature has slightly increased by 5 to 8°C across the region, while the minimum temperature recorded last night witnessed an uptick of 0 to 3°C at many places, with Srinagar recording a low of 2.3°C, and this was 0.2°C below the average for the place during this period of the season. The lowest minimum temperature recorded at Gulmarg was -7.5°C, and this was 4.3°C below normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir during this period of the season. Pahalgam had a low of -4.7°C, and this was 2.7°C below normal for the valley of shepherds, while Kupwara recorded a low of -1.2°C, and it was 2.2°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir north district.
