The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) team conducted an inspection at the Lucknow University canteen on Tuesday, following complaints of adulterated food being sold. The team collected samples of food items, including chilli sauce and French fries, which will be sent to a laboratory for testing. The complaint was filed by a student, Yash Agarwal, on the IGRS portal, alleging that the canteen was selling adulterated food. The canteen owner, Manoj Kumar Gupta, presented a food registration certificate, but the team still collected samples due to suspicions about the quality of the food.

The inspection was carried out by food safety officer Nitika Kesari, who visited the canteen and asked the complainant to be present. However, the complainant was unable to attend. The canteen owner provided the necessary documents, but the team decided to collect samples as a precautionary measure. The samples will be tested for quality and safety standards, and the results will be submitted to the district magistrate.

The FSDA team has taken swift action in response to the complaint, and the matter has been resolved. The inspection highlights the importance of ensuring food safety and quality in public places, especially in educational institutions. The university authorities have been informed about the inspection and the results of the lab tests will be shared with them.

In recent times, there have been several instances of food adulteration in the city, and the FSDA has been cracking down on such cases. The team has been conducting regular inspections and raids to ensure that food establishments are following the necessary safety and quality standards. The public has also been encouraged to report any instances of food adulteration or poor quality food to the authorities.

The inspection at the Lucknow University canteen is a step in the right direction, and it is hoped that it will help to improve the overall food safety and quality in the city. The FSDA team will continue to monitor the situation and take action against any establishments that are found to be violating the food safety and quality standards. The university authorities have also been asked to take necessary steps to ensure that the food being served in the canteen is safe and of good quality.
