Spider-Man 4 Release Date Changed

The release date for Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 has been pushed back to July 31, 2026, a week later than originally planned. The movie was initially scheduled for release on July 24, 2026. Sony Pictures made the official announcement regarding the updated release date. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. With this new schedule, Spider-Man 4 will now be released a few weeks after Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which also stars Tom Holland and is set to open on July 17, 2026.
Tom Holland recently confirmed that production for Spider-Man 4 is set to begin in mid-2025. The new film seems to follow a similar pattern as the previous Spider-Man films, as it is scheduled for release after Avengers: Doomsday. Cretton has been actively involved in several Marvel projects, including co-creating the upcoming Wonder Man miniseries and developing a sequel to Shang-Chi. The change in release date moves the film two weeks after the release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which also features Holland. The Marvel entry will now launch two weeks after Universal’s release of “The Odyssey,” giving Holland some breathing room from opening two prospective blockbusters within a week of one another.
The adjustment also has key repercussions for exhibitor operations, as it allows “The Odyssey” to have two weeks of play without a wide release that would contend for Imax real estate. Such a pile-up occurred in July 2023, when Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” played Imax auditoriums for only a little more than a week before Universal and Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” took over venues. The film is expected to begin production this summer, though no casting details have been announced beyond Holland. It remains unclear if Zendaya, who has played love interest MJ in all three Holland entries, is returning for this fourth entry. However, it is known that Zendaya will appear in Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” starring alongside Holland.
The adaptation of Homer’s time-proven ancient Greek epic poem began production just weeks ago, with Universal releasing a first look at Matt Damon in the lead role of Odysseus. The film also stars Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo. Some of the notable upcoming releases include:
