Amazon Prime Video has ordered a new documentary special titled Octopus!, which will be narrated and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The two-part documentary will transport viewers into the depths of the ocean to explore the life of the Giant Pacific Octopus from birth to death. The documentary features a diverse mix of characters, including scientists, explorers, and Emmy-nominated actor and comedian Tracy Morgan, who share their unique connections to these intelligent and mysterious creatures.

The documentary is produced by Waller-Bridge's production company Wells Street Films, in association with Alex Gibney's Jigsaw Productions. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the project, stating that it will shine a light on the intelligent and special animals through Waller-Bridge's comedic lens. The documentary is directed by Niharika Desai and executive produced by Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robins, Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, and showrunner Melissa Wood.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge entered into an overall deal with Amazon in 2019 and renewed it in 2023. Besides Octopus!, she and Wells Street Films are working on multiple series for the company, including adaptations of the Tomb Raider video games and Claudia Lux's novel Sign Here.
