The 97th Academy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, honoring the year's biggest films and drawing Hollywood's brightest stars. Comedian Conan O'Brien will make his Oscars hosting debut, succeeding Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted the ceremony four times, including last year. Leading the nominations this year are The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, Conclave, and A Complete Unknown, all vying for the coveted Best Picture award.

Oscar nominees Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will take the stage for a special medley of songs from their blockbuster musical Wicked, with additional performances from other artists. Meanwhile, 2024 Oscar winners Emma Stone, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Cillian Murphy, and Robert Downey Jr. are also set to present tonight. The 2025 Oscars will air live on ABC and, for the first time, will also be available to stream live on Hulu. ABC has telecast the Academy Awards since 1976 and is under contract through 2028.

For those without cable, the Academy Awards can be watched on a live TV streaming service that carries ABC, including DirecTV Stream, YouTube TV, Hulu+ Live TV, and Fubo, all of which currently offer free trials. The 2025 Oscars will be streaming live on Hulu for the first time, with the streaming service currently offering a 30-day free trial. New and eligible returning subscribers can watch the ceremony for free, and after the trial period ends, Hulu plans start at $9.99 for the with-ads plan.

The 97th annual Academy Awards will begin at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sunday, March 2 on ABC, with the official red carpet pre-show kicking off at 6:30 p.m. ET on ABC and Hulu. E! will also air its program, "Live From E!: The Oscars," beginning at 4 p.m. ET. Some of the major Oscar categories and their nominations include:

  • Best Picture: Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I'm Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, Wicked
  • Best Actor: Adrien Brody, The Brutalist, Timothée Chalamet, A Complete Unknown, Colman Domingo, Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes, Conclave, Sebastian Stan, The Apprentice
  • Best Actress: Cynthia Erivo, Wicked, Karla Sofía Gascón, Emilia Pérez, Mikey Madison, Anora, Demi Moore, The Substance, Fernanda Torres, I'm Still Here
The ceremony will feature a star-studded lineup of presenters and performers, making it a must-watch event for film enthusiasts.

However, not all films have received universal acclaim, with "Emilia Pérez" being a prime example. Despite being nominated for 13 Oscars, the film has been widely panned by critics and audiences alike, with many taking issue with its portrayal of cartel violence and its handling of trans themes. The film's lead actress, Karla Sofía Gascón, has also faced backlash for past tweets that have been deemed racist and Islamophobic. Despite this, the film remains a contender in several categories, highlighting the often contentious nature of the Oscars and the film industry as a whole.
