AMD has officially announced its next-generation graphics cards, the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, which are designed to compete with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50-series. The RX 9070 XT will be priced at $599, while the RX 9070 will cost $549. Both cards are built on the new RDNA 4 architecture, which features improved ray tracing and AI performance. The RX 9070 XT is expected to deliver 51% more performance than the previous generation's flagship GPU, the Radeon 6900 XT, and will be comparable to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4080 in traditional "raster" gaming performance.

The RDNA 4 architecture is designed to work hand-in-hand with AMD's new FSR 4 technology, which is the company's first iteration of AI-powered upscaling and frame generation software. FSR 4 is expected to deliver large performance boosts with image quality that can match or even surpass native visuals. The technology will be supported by over 30 games at launch, with the number expected to grow to 75+ by the end of the year. The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will also feature improved media encoding hardware, with up to 25% better H.264 quality and 11% better H.265 quality.

One of the key features of the RDNA 4 architecture is its improved ray tracing performance, which has been a weakness for AMD's GPUs in the past. The company claims that the new architecture delivers twice the ray tracing throughput of the previous generation, and features a more efficient memory subsystem to handle ray tracing tasks. The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will also feature PCIe 5.0 support, GDDR6 memory, and DisplayPort 2.1a connectivity.

AMD will not be offering an AMD-made version of the Radeon RX 9070 series, instead letting partners like Sapphire, Asus, and XFX handle graphics card designs. The company is positioning the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 as a more affordable alternative to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50-series, with a focus on delivering high-performance 4K gaming at a lower price point. With the launch of the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, AMD is hoping to gain ground on Nvidia in the high-end GPU market, and provide a more competitive option for gamers looking for a powerful and affordable graphics card.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are set to launch on March 6, and will be available from various retailers and AMD's partners. The company is expected to provide more information on the GPUs' performance and features in the coming weeks, and will likely release a series of benchmarks and comparisons to demonstrate the cards' capabilities. With the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, AMD is looking to make a statement in the high-end GPU market, and provide a compelling alternative to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50-series.
