Mohammed Shami has registered the unwanted record of bowling the joint-longest over by an Indian in One-Day Internationals during the team’s Champions Trophy match against Pakistan in Dubai. Operating with the new ball, Shami sent down an 11-ball over to Imam-ul-Haq, conceding six runs, with five of those coming from wides as he struggled to control his swing and maintain his line.

Shami became the third Indian to bowl an 11-ball over in ODIs, following Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan. Zaheer has also bowled 10-ball overs on six occasions. Shami’s over was also the third-longest in ICC Champions Trophy history, with Bangladesh’s Hassibul Hossain and Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara holding the record for the longest overs in the competition, having each bowled 13-ball overs. The Indian team was looking to make a strong start in the tournament, but Shami’s erratic bowling put them on the back foot.

The match between India and Pakistan is one of the most highly anticipated clashes in the cricket world, with a huge following and intense rivalry between the two teams. Pakistan is currently leading the head-to-head record against India in ODIs, with 73 wins out of 135 matches. In the Champions Trophy, Pakistan enjoys a 3-2 lead over India. The Champions Trophy 2025 is being held in Dubai, with several top teams competing for the title.

Here are the match details:

  • India: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav
  • Pakistan: Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan(w/c), Salman Agha, Tayyab Tahir, Khushdil Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed

The tournament is expected to be closely contested, with several top teams competing for the title. India and Pakistan are two of the strongest teams in the tournament, and their match is expected to be one of the most exciting clashes.

Mohammed Shami has been in good form recently, notching a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh and becoming the country's highest-ever scalp taker in ICC events by touching the mark of 60 dismissals. However, his injury concerns have been a worry for the Indian team, and his performance in the match against Pakistan will be closely watched. The Indian team will be looking to bounce back from Shami’s erratic start and make a strong comeback in the match.
