The Tampa Bay Lightning have extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 36 saves for the Lightning, who improved to 6-0-1 in their last seven games. Nikita Kucherov, Luke Glendening, and Nick Paul scored in the third period, while Brandon Hagel added his third short-handed goal of the season. The Lightning's winning streak is a testament to their consistent performance and teamwork, with players like Hagel and Kucherov making significant contributions.
Shane Wright scored for the Kraken, and Ales Stezka finished with 19 saves in his NHL debut. The Kraken were coming off a 2-1 win at the Florida Panthers on Saturday, but were unable to carry the momentum into the game against the Lightning. The Lightning's defense was solid, with Vasilevskiy making several key saves to secure the win. After a scoreless first period, Hagel gave the Lightning the lead with a short-handed goal at 9:27 of the second period, racing up ice to fend off Oliver Bjorkstrand and putting a spinning backhander on goal.
Kucherov and Glendening scored 1:43 apart in the third period to give Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead. Wright tipped in a shot by Brandon Montour to cut it 3-1 at 15:24, but Paul added an empty-net goal to seal the win for the Lightning. The Kraken fell to 0-9 in the second half of back-to-back games, while the Lightning recorded their 10th short-handed goal of the season, second-most in the league behind Florida. The key moment in the game came when the Lightning scored off a set faceoff play, with Brayden Point pulling a puck off the draw back to Nikita Kucherov, who scored on a quick shot past Stezka at 11:15 of the third.
The Lightning's win improved their record to 7-0-1 all-time against the Kraken. The team's statistics are impressive, with the following
- Brandon Hagel: 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) and plus-12 during a five-game point streak
- Shane Wright: 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in his past 10 games
- Nikita Kucherov: 82 points this season, top scorer for the Lightning
The Lightning will look to continue their winning streak when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, while the Kraken will face the St. Louis Blues on the same day. The Kraken will need to regroup and come up with a new strategy to take on the Lightning in their next meeting. For now, the Lightning are riding high on their winning streak, and will look to keep the momentum going in their upcoming games.
