Martin Scorsese is teaming up with Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt for a new crime drama set in Hawaii. The film, which is currently untitled, will tell the story of a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss who battled rival syndicates and corporations to gain control of the island's underworld. The project is being described as a sort of Hawaiian Goodfellas meets The Departed, with Scorsese at the helm and Nick Bilton on board as writer.
The movie will be set in the 1960s and 70s, when the charismatic and formidable mob boss built up a powerful criminal empire across the Hawaiian islands. However, it will also tell the untold story of his fight to preserve his ancestral land, which ignited a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates. Johnson, DiCaprio, and Blunt are all set to star in the project, though details regarding roles are yet to be announced. The actors will also produce alongside Scorsese, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
Johnson and Blunt previously worked together on Disney's Jungle Cruise and the upcoming Smashing Machine. The duo reportedly brought the idea for the mob movie to Scorsese and DiCaprio, before they all reached out to Bilton to pen the story. Meanwhile, DiCaprio and Scorsese are well known for their successful collaborations, including the critically acclaimed Killers of Flower Moon, The Aviator, The Departed, Gangs of New York, and The Wolf of Wall Street. Some of the notable works of the cast and crew include:
- Killers of Flower Moon
- The Aviator
- The Departed
- Gangs of New York
- The Wolf of Wall Street
- Jungle Cruise
- Smashing Machine
The pair have also been developing the real-life serial killer movie, The Devil in the White City, which was recently picked up by 20th Century Studios. Both stars will produce the long-awaited project, with DiCaprio acting and Scorsese directing. With such huge names on board, a properly fascinating story to tell, and word on the street that Tinsel Town's big wigs are already getting their bids in sharpish, this project is poised to be a big one. The film's themes of power, violence, and cultural survival are sure to resonate with audiences, and with Scorsese's masterful direction, this movie is likely to be a must-see event.
The project is still in the pitching phase, but with the caliber of talent involved, it's likely that we'll be hearing much more about this Hawaiian crime drama in the near future. As the film's production moves forward, fans can expect to see more updates on the cast, crew, and plot. For now, the prospect of Scorsese, Johnson, DiCaprio, and Blunt working together on a project that combines the gritty intensity of Goodfellas with the epic scope of The Departed is a tantalizing one, and audiences will be eagerly awaiting more news on this exciting new project.
