Introduction to the Controversy
The Indian Premier League 2025 has been marred by a controversy involving the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president, Jagan Mohan Rao. The SRH team has accused Rao of blackmail, coercion, and threatening their staff over ticketing demands. The issue began when Rao allegedly locked the corporate boxes, including one meant for Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka, just hours before the start of the game.
The Allegations Against HCA President
The SRH management has alleged that Rao was requesting ticket and pass allotments for personal use, instead of going through the normal channel of the host state association. They claim that Rao wanted them to block 10% of tickets every match (3900 tickets per match) for himself to purchase, which is over and above the 3900 tickets that they give complimentary to HCA. The management refused, stating that the fans of SRH would miss out on buying said tickets and this would lead to suspicion regarding the transparency of the sale of tickets.
Seeking a Resolution
The SRH management has sought a meeting with the HCA to resolve the issue and has appraised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL management of the troubles they are facing from the HCA president. They have also thanked the cooperation received from the other officials of the association, including the secretary, CEO, and others. The management has denied allegations that they agreed to give extra 20 tickets in a different box and has proof of communication with the HCA officials. The Indian Premier League 2025 is expected to be a thrilling tournament, but controversies like these can tarnish the reputation of the league and the teams involved.
