The Coldest Night of the Year events are taking place across Canada, with various organizations participating to raise funds for those experiencing homelessness and to support youth services. In Lethbridge, Streets Alive Mission and Wood’s Homes are hosting separate walks to collect donations for their respective causes. The annual walk aims to simulate the experience of being on the streets during the colder months, raising awareness about the challenges faced by vulnerable residents.

In Grey-Bruce, some Coldest Night of the Year events have been adjusted due to heavy snow in the region. Safe ‘N Sound has cancelled the walk portion of its event in Owen Sound, instead hosting a Snow Day Edition with free food, drinks, and activities at the Owen Sound Farmers’ Market. The United Way of Bruce Grey has also made changes to its walks, eliminating the five-kilometre route in some locations and asking participants to complete the two-kilometre route instead. Despite the adjustments, all organizers are planning to go ahead with their events on Saturday.

In Nanaimo and Oceanside, the Island Crisis Care Society is hosting its biggest event of the year, the Coldest Night of the Year, with the goal of surpassing last year's record-breaking fundraising totals. The event features a family-friendly winter walk of two or five kilometres in support of local charities, designed to raise awareness about poverty and homelessness. Participants can start a team, donate to someone walking, or volunteer to help with the event.

The events have already seen significant fundraising efforts, with over $53,000 raised in Owen Sound and $44,000 raised in Saugeen Shores. In Nanaimo, the goal is to surpass last year's total of $125,000, while Oceanside has already surpassed its $100,000 goal. The Coldest Night of the Year events are an important way to raise awareness and funds for local organizations, and participants are encouraged to get involved and make a difference in their communities.

For those interested in participating or donating, more information can be found on the respective organization's websites. The events are a great way to give back to the community, and every donation counts in making a difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness and poverty. With the support of participants and donors, the Coldest Night of the Year events can continue to break fundraising records and make a positive impact on local communities.
